1.) Causes more problems than solves. I’m constantly providing a shoulder to cry on after my friends “smart” air conditioning unit breaks and starts plummeting the temperature in his car to minus 30 degrees. Or consoling a mate whose parking sensor fell asleep during a vital parking moment. The fact is, the less technology in your car, the fewer things there are to go wrong and the greater chance you’ll have a stress free drive
2.) Over dependence. Quiz your grandpa about how he possibly managed to navigate his old Triumph Stag around hundreds of miles of road and he’ll tell you that he used an old compass to guide him and head-based mathematical logarithms to work out how much fuel he had used. At the same time he’ll explain how he always had enough fuel and getting lost wasn’t in his vocabulary. He may be stretching the truth a little, but I would put money on the fact a higher percentage of road users run into problems such as these nowadays. This is largely because doing something like trusting a sav nav device that has 40mil roads in its data center is great in principle, but not so great when it delivers you a location 100 miles from your home just because you happen to share the same road name.
3.) Theft. Maybe I’m a grumpy old man already, but from my point of view a car with less shiny gadgets is less likely to attract the attention of criminals. Criminals are only human and they want to be listening to Dolby surround sound as they hotwire you car and have a perfectly air conditioned 15 degrees environment to drive in whilst being chased by the cops. For these reasons (among others) it’s almost always the flash cars that get targeted. This kind of decision can backfire however, when the sat nav guides them to nearest police station by accident and the central locking wont let them out of the car.

Muscle cars are an important piece of American automotive history, although the era was short lived. Many think of a muscle car as any car that is fast, but the true definition of a muscle car is an intermediate sized car with a large V8 engine, built between 1965 and 1973. Before 1965, most auto manufacturers mandated that a 330 ci or larger V8 engine could only be put into full size automobiles, but the Pontiac GTO in 1965 broke that rule, sort of. (more…)
